The weather was perfect today: overcast but not chilly or raining! We finally had a second cart—Costco was selling them and Brennan grabbed one—so the six hander-outers were able to split up into two teams of three and cover the entire area faster.
The old cart (Kevin, Alec, and Peter) went west to the meadow right away, and while the new cart (Carol, Brennan, and Laura) ran around doing all the smaller fringe areas. We noticed that this significantly sped up the process; we were done around 1:30p, and could certainly go even faster if we wanted, but decided to use the extra time to talk to and start developing closer relationships with the people out here.
Allegedly, the meadow (within the blue area) was cleared this week, but we saw no meaningful signs of this— like usual, it had by far the highest density of people. Some have moved back into the BMX park since it was cleared two weeks ago, but not many.
Kevin took pictures with some of our regulars in preparation for a presentation to Redemption Church at the general meeting next week.
In the eastern part of the BMX park, we noticed a few fires; this is new. We didn’t see any signs of them felling trees for firewood (like in the northwest meadow) though.
Thank you to Audrey and Kimmie for making all 95 sandwiches this week! They even cut them diagonally for a fancy touch. Audrey also made extra cookies, so with Carol’s usual we were left with a large surplus even after handing them out extra aggressively.
We handed out a total of 89 water bottles and and 80 (pre-leftover) sandwiches.
If you are interested in helping us (either by handing out sandwiches, making sandwiches, or buying materials for sandwiches), please comment here or fill out this form! We meet near the Corvallis Dog Park at ~11:45a every Saturday (and start walking around noon), rain or shine.
